20th Century Bratislava Tour

Private Guided Off the Beaten Path Walk

Private Bratislava Walking Tour: Offbeat Experience with a Local Guide

Our walking tour in Bratislava is an insightful experience with a local guide to understand the essentials of history and genius loci of the Slovak capital.

This 20th century walking tour takes you to the most interesting locations in Bratislava city centre focusing on modern history. After an introduction in the Old Town, we walk along the Danube river to the Old Bridge and enjoy splendid views on Bratislava city landmarks.

With us, you will see and get explained the Red Army memorial, brutalist 1970’s architecture of the Slovak National Gallery, iconic UFO-like bridge, WWII heroes statues, 1968 Prague Spring locations, art-nouveau buildings, communist-era shopping mall, or the first 1930’s highrise in Czechoslovakia. If you are a fast walker, we can also make it to the Pioneer Palace, Freedom Square with a giant 1980’s fountain and an inverted pyramid of the Slovak Radio.

We will bring you alive the most captivating stories from the first Czechoslovak republic (after the WWI), controversial history of the Slovak WWII fascist state, life beyond the Iron Curtain during the Cold War, 1989 Velvet Revolution, 1993 Velvet Divorce and turbulent 1990’s journey to democracy.
