Unique Czechoslovak fortification system was built in the years 1936-38. As one of the few, the system stretching along Petržalka - Austrian border was fully completed. Fortresses were built to defend the national borders as reaction to forming Adolf Hitler’s nazi Reich and in it’s time was the Czechoslovak fortification system most sophisticated in the world. Uniquely accessed bunkers give you the opportunity to return to the respective periods when these objects were used by the military and closed to the public. Read more on www.mpo.sk (in Slovak).

20 kilometres south of Bratislava at the edge of a peninsula in the middle of the great Danube you will find one of Europe’s youngest Museums of Modern Art – Danubiana. A place where the water level gives a freedom of expression and creativity for today’s artists.
A visit to the gallery itself is an inspiring experience. The unusual location at the border of three countries – Slovakia, Austria and Hungary and the specific contrast of the wide water way, high sky and endless banks of dams create the framework of powerful architecture evoking shapes of a roman gallery placed at the waters edge. The architecture in its diversity gives the opportunity for several exhibition programs.
